Happy New Year

1 min read
Hey guys and gals.

So back in May I decided not to post to this account anymore. I have, since then, been posting to my other account :iconotterling-arts:. I have not posted anything here since but I think that may change. I have decided to challenge myself to a 365 day challenge. I'm going to draw and post something every day for the year. This won't be limited to just works that I've poured a ridiculous amount of time into either. I'll be posting sketches, finished works, pen and ink, ect. Since I've taken this challenge on, I've decided that it isn't fair to myself to refuse to do any fanart during that time. If the mood strikes me to deny myself should inspiration come to me in any form.

So, to sum up, I'll be posting fanart to this account and original art to my other account. I hope you enjoy both.

Hey guys,

So, first things first. Thank you to everyone who voted for my friend in the Random Acts contest. Sadly she didn't win but I really appreciate all the effort you guys put forward. I know it meant a lot to her too.

Second, as you can see from the title of this journal, there's a major change going on with me. I've looked around my gallery and realized that far too much of my work for the past few years has been nothing but fanart. It's the candy of the art world, I suppose. People who don't even like your drawing style will still fave your stuff because they like the characters. That's well and good but it's also made me wonder if I'm a good enough artist to stand on my own without the crutch of fandom.

So I'm making a very difficult decision here. I am no longer going to post to this account. I have one last art that I did, which is fanbased, and I may post it sometime way down the line, but there won't be anything past that from me in regards to fandom. I'm sorry if that bothers anyone. I know many of my watchers started following me because of the Supernatural and FF7 work I did but it's time for me to move on. I won't blame you if you don't follow along.

For those who want to see my art still, who don't mind that none of it will be fandom based, you can come join me at my new account: otterling-arts.deviantart.com/

I hope to see some of you there and I hope you still enjoy the art that comes solely from my heart and mind.

Thank you, everyone.

Hey guys! There's an on-line vote I need some help with.

No, no, don't run.

It requires NOTHING of you but clicking a button on the Random Acts page. This is a contest to vote for a kind act you like most and the winner has money donated to a charity of their choice! Well, Rachel-Jayne Richmond submitted one of the acts and I'd love it if you guys would help her out by voting for her!

www.therandomact.org/wordpress…

Her act was to make 100 turducken sandwiches and give them out to the homesless in Chicago! She even got her after school care kids to each make a card just telling the homeless not to give up and that they aren't forgotten. It was a really sweet act and it touched a lot of lives that day. I would love it if she wins this! If you want to spread the word, that would be wonderful! Thank you!!

OH! And to everyone who voted for Random Acts in the Shorty awards: OMG. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. WE WON. No, seriously. We about died. We actually WON the Shorty for best charity on social media!! You guys are so amazing!! THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!

I suppose I should explain some of my silence for the past while.

As you all know, I'm a member of the military. Helping people has always been something that has driven me and for a while now that has taken the form of protecting others. While on my last deployment though, I discovered an amazing company called Random Acts. These seemingly disparate people from all walks of life have come together with one common goal:

To change how people see others and to change the world itself through random acts of kindness.

I joined their ranks and have, since then, never regretted a moment of it. I've found myself spending less time with my head in my headphones and more time just talking to the people around me. I'm meeting people I never thought I would. I'm making a difference one person at a time just by doing something nice. The big thing here is that it doesn't take a monumental effort either. Random Acts brought it to my attention that just taking two minutes to tell someone I like their earrings can really change that person's whole day. That takes, what? Two seconds? For the person having a bad day, those two seconds could mean a world of difference.

Just recently, Random Acts began to restructure and they asked for some volunteers to help out. I put my name in and suddenly found myself as the Assistant Director of a world wide non-profit organization. All of our staff are volunteers and they are some of the most talented, driven, and amazing people I've ever had the honor of working with.

Now, we need your help. The Random Act is now up for a shorty award on Twitter. If you have a Twitter account, please take just a few seconds of your time to vote for us. I provided the link below and it's doesn't cost anything from you but a few seconds time.

Thank you so much! Your support helps get our name out there to the world.

Commission Help

3 min read
Hey guys and gals,

I've offered commissions in the past from time to time but it's been a long while since I've done so. I know things are really hard on everyone but, well, with some medical bills having come due and my being the only breadwinner in the family right now, things just got difficult for me this month. In order to meet all my bills, I am trying to see if anyone's interested in commissions. I can promise a turnaround time of no more than 72 hours after each new commission is posted. So, for example, if you're the first person to commission me, you get your piece within 72 hours. If you're the second person, you get it within 72 hours of when I post the first piece and so on. I have cleared a lot of my schedule so that I can get these done in a timely manner. I know it sucks to order something and have to wait for it.

I'm also trying to make these cheap since I know things are hard on everyone right now so I've drastically pushed down my normal prices.

Line art with 1 character: $10, digitally inked.

Color work with 1 character $20 (no background)

Additional characters, $5

Fully rendered background, $10

I am also willing to write stories if anyone wants that instead. 5,000 - 10,000 words $15. Give me a prompt and I'll make it happen.

Thanks in advance for any assitance anyone can lend.
